Miriam Vasquez

Director of Student Services

Miriam Vasquez’s journey to becoming the Director of Student Services and Community Schools for the Lighthouse Family of Schools has been far from easy. For 21 years, she navigated the world as an undocumented individual, an experience that has profoundly shaped her passion and drive in the field of education. Despite these challenges, Miriam has held her position with distinction, dedicating over two decades to fostering equitable outcomes for students across Bay Area Public Schools, particularly in Oakland. This unique background, coupled with her personal journey, fuels Miriam’s philosophy that schools should serve as nurturing havens for students and their families. As a Latinx woman, her identity enriches her approach, bringing a deeply rooted passion and dedication to her work. Miriam’s commitment to advancing equitable outcomes for all children through comprehensive wraparound services is intensely personal. She holds a Master’s in Social Work and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from the University of  California, Berkeley.

Her multifaceted identity as a brown woman, educator, social worker, daughter, wife, mother, and proud first-generation college graduate informs her approach to educational leadership and community engagement. This diverse background enables Miriam to foster strong connections with the communities she serves, driving forward initiatives that ensure every child receives the support and opportunities they deserve.
