Shajaira López

Dr. Shajaira López is a first-generation immigrant from Panama whose experiences have shaped her commitment to educational excellence, belonging, and opportunity for every student.
Since beginning her career as a middle school teacher in Chicago Public Schools in 2006, Dr. López has served as an assistant principal, university faculty member and department chair, principal, and district director. Throughout her career, she has partnered with educators to strengthen instruction, develop leaders, and create schools where students are challenged, supported, and affirmed.
Dr. López believes students thrive when learning is rigorous, joyful, and grounded in strong relationships. She values authentic partnerships with families and is committed to ensuring every student graduates prepared for college, career, and a life of choice.
In June 2026, Dr. López relocated from Tacoma, Washington, to Oakland to join Lighthouse Community Public Schools. She is honored to serve the students, families, and educators of East Oakland and looks forward to learning alongside the community.
