Shaina Hurley

Shaina Hurley is in her fifth year as the principal of the Elementary School at Lighthouse. She was placed at Lighthouse as a student teacher 11 years ago and began her educational career teaching third and fourth grades. Shaina strives to achieve academic readiness for all students, specifically students in the East Oakland community who traditionally have been underprepared for higher education. She believes strongly in teacher support and development as the way to achieve such equity.
Shaina graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Special Education, received her teaching credential at Mills College, and most recently her master’s in Educational Leadership and administrative services credential at UC Berkeley.
