Become a Lightkeeper — give a multi-year gift of support

On October 29, 2019, Lighthouse Community Charter Schools celebrated the official inauguration of a new group of dedicated supporters, our Lightkeepers. Lightkeepers are individuals and companies who commit to making an annual contribution for at least three consecutive years to allow Lighthouse leaders to focus fully on creating the most outstanding learning experience possible for each student and elevating public school education across Oakland, the Bay Area, and beyond.

We also recognize community members who donate significant time and talents as Lightkeepers — all types of resources and support are valued and welcomed.

On May 5, 2023, we celebrated our dedicated community of Lightkeepers once again at Salesforce Tower. More info is available here.

Give a Charitable IRA Distribution

For donors who are 70 1/2+ yo and have IRA’s with annual required minimum distributions (RMD’s), under the new tax laws, more people may choose to take the standard deduction, instead of itemizing deductions.  If you are in that group, taking advantage of ‘Charitable IRA Distributions’ is a way to optimize the tax benefits of your charitable contributions.

You can meet some or all of your required minimum distribution obligation (up to $100,000) by having the distribution check made out directly by your retirement fund to Lighthouse Community Public Schools (Tax ID#  94-3370410). By doing this, the amount will not be included in your calculated income and therefore will not be taxable.

The check can either be sent to you and you can send it to us, or it can be mailed directly to us by the funding source to the attention of Karen Fee: Lighthouse Community Public Schools,  433 Hegenberger Rd. Suite 201, Oakland, CA 94621. Questions: Email karen.fee@lighthousecharter.org.

Even if you do plan to itemize, there may be additional tax savings for you when you contribute via ‘Charitable IRA Distributions’.  Please ask your tax adviser about this option.

Give a Legacy Gift

A legacy gift is a planned future donation given through a will or other form of designation. It is a decision that each person makes in their own financial planning process, taking into account their charitable wishes and values. There are different options for legacy gifts and a legacy gift may provide significant tax benefits.

If you would like to consider a legacy gift to Lighthouse Community Charter School, please contact Karen Fee at 510-325-1363 or karen.fee@lighthousecharter.org.

Give to the Alex R. Graf Memorial Scholarship Fund

Alex Rudolf Graf was born on Jan. 2, 1971 and died on Oct. 23, 2003. To commemorate his life, Alex’s family has established the Alex R. Graf Memorial Scholarship Fund. During his life, Alex was able to pursue his dreams of living in China and working in the film industry because of his educational opportunities. Alex’s family would like to provide the diverse, low-income student population of Lighthouse Community Charter School with similar opportunities in the form of college tuition scholarships. Through his close relationship with his cousin, Laura Kretschmar, a founding teacher, Alex was a welcome and frequent visitor to the school. He believed in and shared the mission of Lighthouse.

Each year, the school provides 2 – 4 scholarships to its graduates with the Alex R. Graf Memorial Scholarship Fund. If you want to be a part of funding a student’s tenure in college and commemorate Alex’s life, we invite you to donate to the fund.

To donate to the scholarship fund, please send a check made out to the Alex R. Graf Memorial Scholarship Fund to:
